Yes, There’s an App for That! The Online school Directory is Ready!
Invitations will be sent out this week to paid Parent Club members to create an account on the site and view the directory. Members will need to review their data, especially phone numbers and make the necessary updates. If you aren’t a member and would like to be one to access the directory, please click here.
This is my favorite kind of math. Did you know that PIE is the perfect math manipulative for teaching fractions?! I advise you to stock up on apple, cherry crunch, raspberry-rhubarb, marionberry, and of course, pumpkin chiffon pie. Buy those PIES, I mean valuable teaching tools, online here. If you want to order via paper form, dig through your child’s backpack because they received it in advisory on Thursday, Oct. 23. Paper orders can be turned into the pie box in the school office. All orders must be in by Monday, Nov. 10. Pie pick up will be on Tuesday, Nov. 25th at school. Proceeds go toward curriculum enrichment items like Art Lit supplies, chromebooks, electric piano for band and more! Support our kids by buying and eating pie! ***NOTE: You will need to create a new login EVEN IF you had one for the Oktoberfest auction.
It’s almost time for our annual Snowflake collection. No, not the fluffy white stuff that falls from the sky, but the gift cards so generously donated by you that are then given to our school families who are in need of some support in the fall and winter season. The Snowflake campaign begins on Nov. 19 with collection beginning Dec. 1. Please keep our community in mind as you are out and about at the stores and purchase a gift card for the collection. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Also, we are looking for someone who can coordinate this short but important event. It is a small time commitment that makes a huge difference for our families in need. For more information, please contact Michelle Huntington.
The POWER HOUSE is OPEN!
No more last minute trips to Staples or Target for school supplies! The Power House is now OPEN! Kids (and parents!) can visit the store during the last 15 minutes of lunch every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. The store stocks everything your child needs and more! Mechanical pencils, erasers, art sketch books, composition books, loose leaf paper, construction paper by the sheet, poster board, etc. You can also buy spiritwear and unique items like One Direction binders and keychains.
We are still looking for parents to supervise teams of responsible students who are eager to work in the store. Your commitment is only for one shift for four weeks with the same team of students for 20 minutes per shift. Easy peasy! Please contact Nilla Persson at 503-697-8595 or LJHschoolstore@gmail.com for more information. To sign up to volunteer for supervising students in the store, please click here.
Thank you again to all volunteers and participants in Oktoberfest! The Online Auction is still open! Snag some prime Nike gear, LOAD Dance and Cheer camp, a Track and Field camp, Ducks basketball tickets and more! The online auction will be open until Oct. 31st.
We had so much fun at Oktoberfest that we are doing it AGAIN! Save the date: Oct. 17, 2015!
Found at the Portland Brewing Company - gorgeous ladies’ grey leather jacket and a pair of mens’ sport sunglasses. Please contact Julie Davidson about these items.
Art Lit. has been cancelled!
That will be the unfortunate message to your kids in a month if we do not have parents willing to spend about THREE HOURS ONLY THREE TIMES A YEAR to bring art literacy to the Social Studies classroom. 6th grade especially is in desperate need for their units to be able to start in December, but we need ALL LEVELS. Please help keep art lit alive at LJHS. If you have ever been in the classroom for art lit, you know how much the kids enjoy the presentations and the projects. Let’s work together to keep it going. Please contact Michelle Huntington for more info or click here to sign up.
Please consider overseeing our kids at lunch time! You are important and here are some reasons why:
- Kids get to go outside or into the gym when there is enough supervision
- You get to see your child in their natural habitat and get to know their friends
- You demonstrate the value of volunteering to your child
- You are instilling a culture of giving within your community
- You may witness a bullying situation (sometimes it is very subtle)
- You may uncover an eating disorder or food situation
Our Vice Principal, Alix Pickett does a fabulous job of monitoring issues, and as a reminder, you should contact her if you see any issue that need intervention. You are just the friendly eyes and ears!
Please consider signing up for a block that suits your schedule and combining it with the School Store program. Consistency is helpful! We appreciate you! Click here to sign up.
