October 27 Pie Order Forms go home
A HUGE THANK YOU to all of the parents and volunteers that turned out to support the first annual LJHS Oktoberfest this past weekend! Over 260 people chicken danced the night away at the Portland Brewing Company Taproom on Saturday night. Guests were greeted with live Oktoberfest music and treated to Bavarian pretzels upon arrival. In addition to a new super silent mobile bidding auction, there were over 40 silent auction items up for bid with a wide range of items and prices. After a hearty German buffet, emcees Tom Krueger and Laura Coleman announced the winners of the blue ticket raffle, Bavarian Duck raffle, costume contest and stein challenge. Congratulation to stein challenge winners Laura Coleman and Anthony Opferman, best dressed winners Ryan and Shannon Turner ($75 Tucci certificate), Mystery Duck winners Frank and Cathy Sloan (Cintiq tablet donated by Wacom, $2,499 retail!), blue ticket winner Roger Devine (Traeger fire bowl), and Heads or Tails winner Leeann Talbot (99 bottle of bier)! Overall, the night exceeded expectations and was an overwhelming success. Thanks again to all of the parents that came out along with our sponsors, Kendall Bergstrom, Director's Mortgage, Wacom, and Vanillawood!
If you missed the video or paddle raise, have no fear. You will be able to view the video and participate in a virtual paddle raise soon. Many items are still available at our online auction. Bidding will remain open through Friday, Oct. 31 at 5pm. Click here to view items and bid!
The official Oktoberfest report will be announced at this week’s Parent Club meeting, Wed., Oct. 22 at 9:30am in the LJHS conference room, across from the gym.
MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK
Have you thought about how you can help your school this year? Some of us have a full time job at home across multiple schools and activities and others also have outside work on top of that! There's something here for everyone. Perhaps it is supporting the auction so our enrichment programs can be funded. Perhaps you can spend 30 minutes a couple of days a week or month at lunch supervision or the school store? What about a hands-on classroom project that is not only rewarding for you, but so valued by the students and teachers? Art Literacy is only three units per year per grade. Still not sure? Contact our Parent Club Team - take the step!
***Our next Parent Club meeting is Oct. 22 at 9:30a in the LJHS conference room (across from the gym).
Who’s Hungry for Pie?!!?
Jane Austen may have favored apple pie, but which Willamette Valley Fruit Company pie or cobbler will you deem “a considerable part of your domestic happiness?” Perhaps the apple pie? Cherry pie or marionberry pie? Raspberry-rhubarb pie or pumpkin chiffon pie? You can order NOW online here. If you want to order via paper form, look for your form coming home next week on Oct. 27. Paper orders can be turned into the pie box in the school office. All orders must be in by Monday, Nov. 10. Proceeds go toward curriculum enrichment items like Art Lit supplies, chromebooks, electric piano for band and more! Support our kids by buying and eating pie! Domestic Happiness! ***NOTE: You will need to create a new login EVEN IF you had one for the Oktoberfest auction.
The POWER HOUSE is (almost) OPEN!
Remember how you used to play store when you were little? You would put price tags on your sister’s things and then sell them back to her at an outrageously inflated price or make your mom buy some cookies that she helped you to bake not 15 minutes before. Now you can live your dream by volunteering at The Power House! Parents are needed to supervise teams of student helpers. You would be working with a team of kids who are eager to learn and love having the opportunity to work there. The school store will be open 3 days a week: Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays during the last 15 minutes of lunch. We have 3 shifts on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, a total of 9 shifts. We currently only have 3 shifts filled! Volunteering in the school store is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the students at LJHS. Each shift is 20 minutes long so it is easy to do. We ask that you commit to one shift, 4 weeks in a row, so we can tell the students they have someone to work with! We will also do a trial of being open a few mornings from 7.30 - 7.45a, days to be announced soon. The Power House is full of basic necessities (think mechanical pencils, comp books and construction paper), spirit wear and fun little goodies. To volunteer for supervising students in the store, please click here.
Help us open the store on October 27th! For more info, please contact Nilla Persson at 503-697-8595 or LJHschoolstore@gmail.com.
